Hello! I’m the Doula Girl!

Nice to meet you! My name is Melody Sainvil, aka the Doula Girl. I am passionate about helping mamas and new parents navigate the craziness of welcoming a new baby into their lives.

I learned about doulas from a friend of mine who I hired to be my birth doula. I can’t recommend a birth doula enough! It’s hard to keep your wits about you going through labor, and she was my life saver. Keeping me calm, collected, and helping stay focused through the process of bringing my daughter into the world. I had no idea that there were also postpartum doulas, and I definitely could have benefitted from having one supporting me.

My Story

During the fourth trimester with my baby, I learned just how difficult it can be to navigate the postpartum period, even with family support and maternity leave. Between sleep deprivation, raging hormones, physical healing, difficulties breastfeeding, postpartum anxiety, and brain fog, taking care of myself and my family seemed like an insurmountable task.

What postpartum doulas do

As much as it’s hard to keep your wits about you during labor, it can just as hard if not more so after giving birth. In the American culture, parents are severely undersupported. The role of a postpartum doula is to fill these gaps: supporting new parents with emotional support, keeping up with household tasks and nutrition, lactation support, assistance with healing and comfort measures, newborn care, and beyond!

When I learned about the postpartum doula profession, I knew that this was the right path for me. You took care of this child in your womb for 9 months, and will continue to take care of them for years to come. This is a precious time. You deserve to be celebrated and taken care of for a while.
